What we collect when you take part in the Ultimate Ink Challenge, and what we do with it.

The Ultimate Ink Challenge is run by Painless Tattoo in Riverton, Utah, USA. This page covers the contest site, uic.painlesstattoo.co, and what taking part involves. Painless Tattoo’s privacy policy and terms of service apply to the company as a whole, including the store. Last updated September 25, 2026.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to run the contest: who you are, how to reach you, and your entry.
  • If your entry is approved, your finished tattoo, your name and your Instagram handle are published.
  • Your check-in videos, the ones showing your client and your phone screen, are never published. Only the small team reviewing entries sees them.
  • We don’t sell your information.
  • This site uses the Meta pixel so we can tell whether our contest ads work. It never runs on the pages that hold your private entry link.
  • You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete it, at any time.

What we collect

When you register: your name, email address, Instagram handle, shop name, city, state or region, country, and your Best of Contest division. We use it to run the contest, to send you your entry link and deadline reminders, and to credit you if you win.

When you enter: photos and video of the finished tattoo, your two check-in videos, the dates you tattooed, the categories you entered, and a record of the agreements you ticked, with the time you ticked them. Check-in videos show your client, your client’s face and your phone’s lock screen, because that is how we confirm the work is yours and was done inside the contest window. Only enter work your client agreed to have filmed.

When you ask for your entry link: your email address, and the times we sent it, so the form can’t be used to fill someone’s inbox.

When you message us: your name, email, what you wrote, the page you wrote from, your IP address and your browser’s description of itself. The last two exist to block spam.

When you vote for Fan Favorite: your email address, which we use to confirm the vote is real and to count one vote per person.

Automatically: our host keeps ordinary server logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. The Meta pixel also runs on the public pages of this site, as described below. Apart from Meta’s cookies, the only cookies we set keep staff signed in to internal tools.

Advertising measurement

We advertise the contest on Facebook and Instagram, and we use Meta’s pixel and Conversions API to find out which ads bring artists to it. The pixel is a script from Meta that runs on the public pages of this site. It sets Meta cookies in your browser and tells Meta which pages you visit here, along with your IP address and browser details.

We also tell Meta directly, from our server, when three things happen: you register, you submit an entry, or you confirm a Fan Favorite vote. With each of those we send your email address, and when you register your name, city, state and country too. Those details are hashed before they leave us, turned into a code Meta can match against its own accounts but can’t read back into your details. We never send your entry, your videos, your Instagram handle or your shop.

Meta uses this to report how our ads perform, to show our ads to people who have already visited, and to find people similar to our entrants. Meta handles it under its own privacy policy.

Where it never runs: your private entry link, your entries dashboard, the judges’ portal and our staff tools. Those links work without a password, so we keep them away from every third party, Meta included.

Opting out: you can limit how Meta uses this in your Facebook or Instagram ad preferences, and a browser that blocks tracking or third-party cookies will stop the pixel. Neither affects your registration, your entry or your vote.

What becomes public

If your entry is approved, the finished tattoo photos and video, your name, your Instagram handle and your shop and city appear on this site, and may appear in Painless Tattoo’s posts and emails promoting the contest. That is what entering is for. Your email address, your phone number and your check-in videos are never published. Judges score entries without your name attached.

Who else handles it

A few companies help us run this, and they handle your information only to provide their service to us: Supabase, for the database and file storage; Vercel, for hosting; Resend, for contest email; Klaviyo, for marketing email, and only if you opted in; Front, for our shared inbox; and Meta, for measuring our ads, as described above. Their servers are in the United States, which is where your information is stored, wherever you enter from. We do not sell your personal information, and what Meta receives is used for our advertising only, not anyone else’s. We will hand over information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Entries, results and winners are the public record of the contest, and we keep them. Registration details stay on file so we can tell you about the next one, until you ask us to stop. Messages, votes and server logs are kept only as long as they are useful for support, counting votes and security.

Your choices

Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect contest email about your own entry. You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing uic@painlesstattoo.co from the address on file. We honour those requests wherever you live, not only where the law requires it. Deleting your entry while the contest is running takes it out of judging.

Age

You must be 18 or older to register or enter. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor gave us information, email us and we will remove it.

Changes

If we change how any of this works, we will update this page and change the date above. If the change matters to entrants, we will say so by email.

Contact

Email uic@painlesstattoo.co and a person will read it. The contest rules cover eligibility, judging and prizes.
